Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon
Mr Donald Whitaker is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and was appointed in January 2010. He has a busy clinical practice which includes both adult cardiac and thoracic surgery and he has a specialist interest in cardiothoracic trauma, Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS), and internal rib fixation.
Mr Whitaker trained in cardiothoracic surgery on the South East London Training Programme which included King's College Hospital and Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals. He also undertook specialist Fellowship training in both cardiac and thoracic surgery in Nova Scotia, Canada. Mr Whitaker has received the Certificate of Completion of Training and is on the General Medical Council Specialist Register for cardiothoracic surgery.
Mr Whitaker continues to publish on a variety of subjects in peer-reviewed cardiothoracic surgical journals and remains heavily involved in the teaching and training of medical students and postgraduate trainees.

Mr Whitaker is registered as a data controller with the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Mr Whitaker has received formal training in the preparation of medico-legal reports and has written between 20 and 30 reports per year during the last 6 years. He can act as an expert witness, including the preparation of medicolegal reports and appearing in court, in personal injury and clinical negligence cases relating to his specialist areas of expertise. These include all aspects of adult cardiac and thoracic surgery including chest trauma.
Mr Whitaker can take instructions on behalf of either claimant or defendant or as a Single Joint Expert and is able to examine clients at Central London clinics. Terms and conditions are available on request. Most reports, depending on complexity can be completed within 14 to 21 days.
