Since 2017, Sue Newsome has been providing expert reports where there is psychosexual impairment in personal injury and medical negligence cases. Personal injury and trauma can have a profound impact on an individual and couples’ sex life and relationship and this can be an important consideration for a claimant.

Sue is a member of the Expert Witness Institute and has attended training for ‘Understanding the Legal Framework’ and ‘Report Writing’. Her reports are quantum and include a full proposal detailing the professional services that can help the claimant recover their situation.

She is happy to conduct the interview online and create a sensitive environment for your client when they are talking about intimate details and describing traumatic events. To date, Sue has completed reports for cases in the areas of traumatic childbirth, personal accident, delayed diagnosis and misdiagnosis.

In 2019, Sue was invited to present as part of the Exit Wounds Conference in Dublin organised by Doireann O’Mahony. The title of her presentation was ‘Psychosexual impact of maternal injury and anal sphincter injuries in childbirth’.

She has also written a chapter on ‘Psychosexual Injury relating to childbirth’ in Medical Negligence and Childbirth – 2nd edition by Doireann O’Mahony.
