AEC's experts understand the history of asbestos, it uses, its regulatory history, and its epidemiology and can therefore provide factual independent opinion to the court in such cases. AEC expert witnesses have provided expert witness services to the court on defendant's compliance with current regulations, as well as possible historical exposures to asbestos on behalf of claimants and their estates.
Enforcing authorities will offer advice and information to the duty holder if they are failing to comply. However where appropriate, improvement notices, prohibition orders or formal cautions may be issued and enforced and in this case specialist inspectors might need to get involved in these investigations either as part of the investigation team or as an independent expert witness.
