Dr Nigel Tufft has more than 30 years of experience in anaesthesia and critical care medicine.

Dr Tufft’s clinical experience has led him to a number of special interests in the medico legal field, including:-

• Pre-operative assessment and performing risk assessments on complex patients prior to surgery.
• Regional and spinal anaesthesia.
• Complex orthopaedic surgery.
• The deteriorating patient and delayed critical care admission.
• The risk of death of critically ill patients.
• The physical, cognitive and psychological consequences of a critical care admission collectively known as the Post Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS).

In addition he is able to give an opinion on a wide range of anaesthetic and critical care cases.

He has been providing expert witness services to both claimants and defendants in these fields since 2015. These services includes medico legal report writing, meetings with counsel and clients, meetings and discussions with other experts, and where necessary attendance at court.

Dr Tufft was awarded the Cardiff University Bond Solon expert witness certificate in 2019. He is fully familiar with CPR part 35. He is indemnified by the Medical Protection Society.

Typical turnaround time for full reports is approximately 4 weeks from receipt of the appropriate paperwork. He is happy to have informal discussions via e-mail if required.

Although no longer undertaking clinical work he remains up to date, undertaking CPD in the fields of anaesthesia, critical care and medicolegal work. He is subject to both annual appraisals and the process of revalidation overseen by the General Medical Council.
