Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon
Mr Andrew Chukwuemeka will act for both Claimants and Defendants, as a single joint expert, and he has prepared reports for Coroner’s Inquests.
Mr Chukwuemeka is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust at Hammersmith and St. Mary’s Hospitals, London as well as in the private sector.
He is Medical Director at Hammersmith Hospital and was previously Clinical Director for Cardiac Sciences (Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery), Lead Clinician for Clinical Governance and Audit in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Director of Postgraduate Training.
Mr Chukwuemeka is the Royal College of Surgeons’ Regional Specialty Advisor and serves on the NHS England - Clinical Reference Group for Cardiac Services as well as the NHS England (London) Clinical Senate Council and as an assessor for the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
In the past he has been Lead Clinician for Clinical Governance and Audit in the Major Trauma Centre at St. Mary’s and for the Northwest London Trauma Network. He has also served on the Executive Committee of the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery as Chair of the Cardiac Surgery Committee and the Medical Technology Advisory Committee at NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence).
Mr Chukwuemeka’s practice entails daily involvement in all aspects of risk assessment and management in cardiothoracic surgery. His special interests include Chest Trauma, Surgery for Ischaemic Heart Disease, Aortic Surgery including Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) and Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery.
He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and has made many presentations to learned societies.
