Trauma & Orthopaedic (Spinal) Surgeon
Mr Neil Slater is a Consultant Trauma, Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgeon. He qualified as a doctor in 1983 from Cambridge University and Guy’s Hospital and has worked full time in orthopaedics and trauma since 1987, obtaining the specialist qualification in orthopaedics - FRCS(Orth) - in 1992. He was appointed Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Maidstone Hospital – later Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust - commencing 01.01.94.
Mr Slater retired from a busy and broad NHS practice embracing the full range of orthopaedic trauma with elective interest in spinal surgery on 31.12.19 after 25 years at consultant level. At retirement, spinal surgery accounted for over 95% of his non-emergency work. He continues to work for the NHS in Trauma and Spinal Surgery on an ad hoc sessional basis, as well as working privately at several Kent hospitals in elective spinal surgery.

Mr Slater has attended courses on basic and advanced medicolegal reporting with refresher courses in April 2021. He has been preparing medico-legal reports since 1989, submitting on average 25 new personal injury reports per month. He has been preparing clinical negligence screening and full ‘Breach of Duty and Causation’ reports since 2002, currently submitting an average of two per month.
