Consultant Spinal and Orthopaedic Surgeon

Mr Matthew John Mawdsley is a fellowship trained Consultant Spinal Surgeon, based in Northumbria.

He attended the University of Manchester and completed his higher specialist training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in the Northern Deanery. He was awarded the Surgical College Fellowship in Trauma and Orthopaedics (FRCS) in 2016. This was followed in 2017 by admission to the General Medical Council Specialist Register and award of Completion of Specialist Training (CCT).

Between 2017 and 2019 he enhanced his experience in complex spinal surgery with two prestigious fellowships: National British Orthopaedic Association Fellowship in Spinal Surgery in Northumbria and as the Advanced Spinal Fellow in Leeds General Infirmary.

Mr Mawdsleys’ specialist interests include assessment and both surgical and non-surgical treatment of adult spinal conditions. He undertakes expert witness instructions, including the preparation of medico legal reports and giving evidence in court, in personal injury and clinical negligence cases relating to these areas of expertise.

He provides a quick, efficient and quality service, has undertaken specialist training and is up to date and well versed in current rules and guidelines. The usual turnaround is six weeks from instruction to report, although a faster service can be provided on request.

Mr Mawdsley is actively involved in research and has had his work published. He is heavily involved in medical education, teaching junior doctors and medical students and contributing as an author to medical textbooks.
