Jason Coyne
IT Expert Witness & Technology Consultant
Jason Coyne is an expert IT and digital forensics consultant with over 30 years of experience spanning local and central government, telecommunications, construction, transport, manufacturing, healthcare, energy, oil and gas, wholesale and distribution, retail and gaming. Prior to joining Evolution Project Consulting, Jason was a partner in IT Group, which was acquired by Kroll in 2020 where he was a partner until 2023.
He specialises in technology disputes, digital evidence, technology-based intellectual property matters and complex or disputed eDiscovery matters.
Jason has given oral evidence in the Technology and Construction Court as well as various high courts, criminal courts, mediations and arbitrations in London, Brussels, Delhi, and Johannesburg.
A recent high-profile engagement was as the Claimants’ Expert in Bates v Post Office Limited (No.6: Horizon Issues) [2019] EWHC 3408 (QB) where his Expert IT evidence was preferred by Fraser J (as head of the TCC). As well as the detailed forensic investigation into the Post Office Horizon technology systems, this engagement required extensive disclosure requests and unprecedented resistance from counterparties as well as a robust trial examination. Fraser J's judgement was that: “Mr Coyne emerged more or less unscathed from his four days of cross examination by leading counsel for the Post Office”

Jason has been instructed as a technology expert witness in many high-profile private and public-sector commercial litigations where technology-enabled projects have either been delayed, have failed or are no longer viable. He has been instructed by leading law firms and insurers, acting for specialist suppliers and customers in large technical, infrastructure and outsourcing projects in the UK, South Africa, the Middle East, India and Asia.
He has prepared several expert reports to support submissions to the Information Commissioner in many Global jurisdictions following allegations of data breaches, and is skilled in the use of EnCase, X-Ways, Magnet Axiom, Vound Intella and a range of forensic tools.
Jason is a member of the Academy of Experts and a member of the Society for Computers and Law.
