Mr Sina Atabak is a visionary engineering leader with over 18 years of strategic and technical experience across the power generation, oil & gas, renewables, and energy storage sectors. He has a proven track record of managing multi-disciplinary teams and large-scale engineering projects from concept to commissioning.
Mr Ataback is an expert in developing and leading high-performing engineering functions, driving process and product innovation, and delivering on-time, on-budget complex infrastructure programs. He is committed to operational excellence, safety and continuous improvement and adept at stakeholder engagement and aligning engineering with commercial objectives.
His specialist areas of expertise include:
- Governance - organisational development, risk management, CDM principal designer
- Product and project engineering - lifecycle delivery, system integration, root-cause analysis, on-time delivery excellence and quality control
- Innovation and technical expertise - fluid dynamics, solid mechanics, thermodynamics, FEA, energy storage design, nuclear power generation, fossil fuel power generation and cogeneration including waste heat recovery, propulsion
- Gas turbine, steam turbine, turbomachinery, heat exchangers, stop and emergency control valves, HAZOPs for process plants including power generation and gas plants
- Process safety compliance - HAZID/HAZCON/HAZOP/LOPA/DSEAR/Fire Risk/Regulatory Navigation
- Commercial acumen - cost optimisation, value improvement, product strategy, stakeholder engagement and vendor oversight
Mr Atabak can undertake expert witness instructions in cases relating to all of these areas.
Industrial experiences and case examples which he has acted independently as RCA lead include:
- 340MW Steam turbine and generator shaft lines failure causing loss of availability
- Grid-scale battery energy storage fire incident working with insurance, OEM and client/owner
- Conducting product quality assurance and investigative visits to a large number of OEMs across energy and power generation sectors
- Peter Brotherhood manufacturing and assembly at Peterborough, UK
- Alstom and General Electric turbine manufacturing and foundries in Poland, Switzerland
- Condenser manufacturing in Spain
- Alstom Engineering and design audit in China (Wuhan, Shenyang)
- BESS manufacturing and assembly of BYD, CATL in China.
