iPhone app turns your phone into a double-ended language translator

Converse is the name of a new application which is claimed to turn your iPhone into a double ended language translator, a multilingual, face-to-face instant messaging conversation. It works with both people able to type on a keyboard in their own language at the same time and have the words translated and displayed for the other person.

Study finds alcohol abuse amongst UK forces

British troops serving in Afghanistan or Iraq are far more likely to become alcohol abusers when they return home than fellow troops.

A study led by Simon Wessely of the Institute of Psychiatry at King's College London, found that PTSD among British armed forces were stable at around 4 percent, but there is evidence of higher rates of mental disorders such as anxiety, depression, and alcohol misuse.

Expert witness fee cuts, puts children at risk

The government have been warned that child safety will suffer, if independent social work experts (ISWs) are excluded from being expert family court witnesses. From October 2010 the Ministry of Justice will reduce by around 50% the fees paid to ISWs who give advice to family courts in public law cases concerning children.
